Optimized Design for IRS-Assisted Integrated Sensing and Communication Systems in Clutter Environments

In this paper, we investigate an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system design in a clutter environment. Assisted by IRS equipped with uniform planar array (UPA), multi-antenna base station (BS) is targeted for simultaneously multiple targets the non-light-of-sight (NLoS) region communicating users (CUs). We consider joint IRS-assisted ISAC case Type-I or Type-II CUs, where each CU can cannot cancel interference from signals, respectively. Under perfect communication/sensing channel state information assumption, aim to maximize minimum beampattern gain among targets, qualifies achieved illumination signal power at given location of target interest. jointly optimize BS’s communication-sensing beamformers IRS’s phase shifting matrix, subject signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraint Type-I/Type-II CU, per clutter, transmission BS, cross-correlation pattern constraint. Due variable coupling, problem shown be non-convex CUs. To circumvent non-convexity dilemma, propose semidefinite relaxation (SDR) based alternating optimization algorithms both cases, which computational complexity convergency behavior are analyzed. show that dedicated BS help enhance performance gain. By contrast, not required designs Numerical results provided proposed schemes achieve significant over existing benchmark schemes.
